Yes! Your class fee will include one finished piece. After your class, your piece will choose how you want your piece (s) glazed. It will then be fired and safe to use for food or drinks!
-
Your finished piece will typically be ready for pickup in 3–4 weeks. After class, your piece must dry completely before it can be fired, glazed, and fired a second time. You can always check the status of your piece’s readiness by clicking here.

That's okay! Our Beginning Pottery Wheel Class is all about the experience of trying something new and learning the fundamentals of wheel throwing. Pottery is a skill that takes practice, and it's completely normal if your first attempt doesn't result in a finished piece.
Every time you sit at the wheel, you're building muscle memory, improving your technique, and becoming more comfortable working with clay. Even if you don't keep a piece from your first class, you've still gained valuable skills that will make your next experience even more successful.
Many potters will tell you that some of their biggest breakthroughs came after their first class. If you enjoy the process, we encourage you to come back and take another class—the more you practice, the more confidence and success you'll have at the wheel.
If you aren't able to create a piece you're happy with during your first class, don't be discouraged—that's part of the pottery journey! Many students improve dramatically after just one or two sessions. If you enjoy the experience, we encourage you to sign up for another class or continue your pottery journey through one of our membership options.

Absolutely! Our Beginning Pottery Wheel Class is designed specifically for beginners—no prior experience is required. Our instructors will guide you through each step, from centering clay on the wheel to creating your first piece. We'll demonstrate the techniques, provide hands-on instruction, and encourage you along the way. Come ready to learn, have fun, and enjoy the experience!

Our Beginning Pottery Wheel Class is recommended for ages 8 and up. Children ages 8–11 must be accompanied by a participating parent or guardian, who is also required to register and pay for the class. This ensures everyone has a safe, enjoyable, and successful experience while learning on the pottery wheel.
Because pottery wheel throwing requires strength, coordination, and focus, we recommend this class for children who are able to follow multi-step instructions and participate independently with the support of their accompanying adult.

For the safety of our guests and to ensure everyone has a successful experience, anyone who is new to pottery or has never taken a class at The Turquoise Cup must first complete our Beginning Pottery Wheel Class and Trimming & Intermediate Wheel Class before using the pottery wheels during Open Studio. These classes teach the foundational skills needed to safely and confidently work independently. Once you've completed both classes, you'll be eligible to use our pottery wheels during Open Studio or through our membership program.
